FINDING SIMILARITY
As the history of typography shows, as far as 6000 B.E.C., the Chinese characters differentiated themselves from the Latin alphabets.
Beside the obvious differences that we all know, I’m always very interested of finding similarities within Latin alphabet and the Chinese characters. Not in the sense of how they pronounce nor the meaning, but simply looking at the shape of the word. For example, we can find the shape of the letter A in the Chinese character 盒(he) meaning “box” and pronounces “her” in Chinese, the only similarity between A and 盒(he) is only the A shape at the top of the character.
The book has a sheet of velum paper between each page with correspond alphabet highlighted in red. a stop motion is made for each individual alphabet as well.
With this project, I would like to trace all the way back to the cuneiform period where everyone is using shapes and imageries.
